Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 presentation ended Friday, with little surprises. Leaks leading up to the presentation suggested of new Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold phones, as well as a pair of new watches and more information on the Galaxy Ring. The presentation verified these expectations by announcing the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and the formal reveal of the Galaxy Ring. Is there anything leakers cannot predict?

Samsung Galaxy Ring

Samsung is creating a new product category with the Galaxy Ring, a smart ring that focuses on health and wellbeing, similar to the Oura Ring.. Samsung has effectively incorporated current sensor technologies into the small form factor of a ring. The Titanium Galaxy Ring has an accelerometer, PPG sensors for measuring blood flow, and skin temperature detection. It monitors sleep quality, movement during sleep, heart rate, respiration rate, and menstrual periods. it offers a report of health and suggestions for improvement.  These features do not require a subscription, which is excellent news.

The ring also has automatic workout recognition, heart rate notifications, and reminders to move when you’re inactive. You can also use it to remotely take a picture with your Galaxy phone. The Galaxy Ring lasts up to seven days on a single charge and costs $400, including a quick charging case. Pre-orders commence today in the United States, with deliveries beginning on July 24. If you wear both a Galaxy Ring and a Galaxy Watch, Samsung believes the ring’s battery life will be up to 30% longer.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6

At the Unpacked event on July 10, Samsung announced its latest line of foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

These new foldable phones are the slimmest and lightest versions in their portfolios to date, with a focus on durability. Samsung strengthened the folding edge to support the dual-rail hinge and improved the main screen layers to reduce creases while maintaining strength. Both phones have Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for increased durability.

Galaxy-Z-fold-Series

The Z Fold 6, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, includes a larger vapor chamber for greater cooling, whereas the Z Flip 6 is the first in its family to include a vapor chamber. Both phones have a variety of AI functions, including the Google Gemini app for precise image production and email composition. Other notable enhancements include AI-powered camera upgrades and the Interpreter app, which employs the split screen format for on-device translations.

This year’s screens are somewhat larger, with the 7.6-inch main screen 2.7mm broader and the cover screen 1mm wider. At 2,600 nits, these are the brightest Galaxy Fold displays, matching the Galaxy S24.

The camera technology in the Z Flip 6 has been greatly enhanced, with 50MP wide and 12MP ultra-wide sensors, 2x optical zoom, and AI-powered zoom up to 10x. The standard memory capacity has been doubled from 8GB to 12GB.

Both smartphones are available for pre-order today, with general availability beginning July 24. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 starts at $1,900, while the Z Flip 6 costs $1,100. Pre-ordering the Z Fold 6 includes a storage upgrade, while pre-ordering the Z Flip 6 provides a free storage increase.
